ADDITIONAL TYPES OF DENTAL SEDATION
IV Sedation: This type of sedation is similar in function and strength to oral conscious sedation, except that the medication is injected intravenously. It generally takes effect faster and is suggested for shorter appointments and patients that don’t have a fear of needles. It is not offered in our office, but is available from a dental specialist at another office in Belleville http://www.bellevillesleepdentistry.com/
Inhalation Sedation: Also known as nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, this light dental sedation option provides minimal anxiety reduction and a higher level of painkiller. It is administered through a nose mask. This sedation is much lighter than the oral medication and may not be enough for some people.
Some report it feels like you have a few drinks of alcohol, where it is a pleasant relaxation. It is also reversible, where you leave the office without feeling any sedative effects.
