Crowns
One of the most common types of dental restorations is dental crowns. Crowns can treat a wide variety of dental problems such as decay, cracks, damage, and other oral complications. They're called crowns because they cover the entire visible surface of the tooth’s structure above the gum line. This means that crowns are ideal for heavier types of decay or damage. Besides strengthening the tooth, crowns help to protect it from further damage.
Dental crowns can be constructed from a variety of materials including porcelain/ceramic, gold, or a mixture of these materials. To place a crown, it will take a couple of appointments. The first appointment involves removing the decayed/damaged portion of the tooth and placing it with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready. Once it’s ready, you will return to our office to have the permanent crown placed. Contact Dr. Zaichick & The Smile Team in Belleville to learn all about our crowning options.
