Non-Surgical Gum Therapy
Despite your best efforts to keep your mouth healthy, it's still possible to develop gum disease. In fact, gum disease is the most common oral problem that Canadian face today. And because it develops gradually and painlessly, gum disease can turn into a serious condition that requires more aggressive types of treatment.
Following a comprehensive examination of your mouth, and if gum disease is detected, we may recommend non-surgical gum therapy. This type of therapy involves using a number of methods including local medication, curettage, and root planing. These treatments are performed in our office and may involve local anesthesia to ensure that you're completely comfortable. Because gum disease develops gradually over time, your therapy sessions are likely to be spread out. This long-term approach maximizes the effectiveness and success of the treatment.
- Local medication may be administered into the affected sights as the first step to preventing the spread of the infection.
- Curettage removes the chronically irritated and inflamed gum tissues so that new healthy tissues and grow in its place.
- Root planing is performed to allow the soft tissue to heal by removing and smoothing tiny amount of the surfaces.
In the event that these methods are not enough to remedy the gum disease, we may refer you to a periodontist who specializes in the surgical removal of gum tissue. Dr. Zaichick & The Smile Team will work with you to ensure that you receive the appropriate dental care. Contact our office in Belleville to learn all about our non-surgical gum therapy treatments.
